This is a simple, sight-size line drawing of Blackburn from the top floor of my college building.  I deliberately did not place emphasis on the details because I wanted the sketch to focus on the grid system.

Grids, Layers and Reflections - Photograph Manipulation, March 2012

This is my most recent photograph manipulation work.  I used two photographs for both the images - the grid-style effect is from a poster wall in a Polish History Museum in Prague whilst the street in the background is of the Golden Lane in Prague.  The reason why I used these particular photographs is because: the Golden Lane is one my favourite places that I've visited and removing the colour from the poster wall creates a simple grid but with very interesting shapes within the squares.  I really like the ambiguity created by layering the image.  I also like how, in the image on the left, there is a greater emphasis on the colours of the lane than anything else. 

Grids, Layers and Reflections - Photograph manipulation, February 2012

I created this image by placing two photographs of a building site side-by-side.  I then layered a photograph of cobblestones on top of this.  This is one of my favourite photo manipulations that I have done because of the visual contrast between nature and urban.  The moss makes the skip almost look as though it is decaying.  In addition, the contrast between the green moss and the sharp colours of the building site add another layer of visual interest.   

Grids, Layers and Reflections - Developing Ideas, January 2012

This is a collection of pages from my sketchbook showing ideas development.  First, I took photographs of light reflections.  I then manipulated the images using Photoshop.  Next, I reinvented the image with my own interpretations, forcusing on the shapes that the reflections created.  Then I set about using different media to portray the image - one was done with conte crayon, the other using gouache.  The image on the far right is a simple relief based on the image that I created.
